What is PCIT?
  • Designed to treat children age 2 to 7 years old who exhibit disruptive behaviors:               
    • Anger                      
    • Opposition              
    • Attention
    • Obeying
    • Dawdling
    • Verbal Expression     
    • Fighting                   
    • Table manners                          
    • Destroying or careless with objects
  • Work with the parent and child together
  • Use of coaching from a one-way mirror
  • Two components of treatment (averaging 14 to 20 weekly sessions) focusing on relationship enhancement and behavior management
  • Emphasis on restructuring parent-child patterns  
Goals of PCIT:   
  • Decrease child behavior problems
  • Improves parenting skills
  • Enhances the quality of the relationship between parent and child
  • Decrease in abuse potential
  • Decrease in child mental health problems

  • More positive parenting attitudes toward child Parent report of child behavior problems to within normal limits
  • Parent self-reported improvements in personal distress,psychopathology, and parenting locus of control
